Please help with IE and Firefox!

Ok guys, I have had this problem for a while and have not yet been able to fix it, even after reformatting. My problem seems to be with Javascript. In both IE and Firefox, when I try to click on certain links nothing happens. An example would be when I try to click on the "Invite 6 friends to Gmail" link in Gmail. My cursor turns into a hand signifying that it recognizes it as a link but nothing happens after I click. Also, when I open an email in hotmail which has links contained within the email, the same thing happens. Reason I believe that it has to do with Javascript is because when I hold my cursor over the link in IE, something similar to what I have below shows up on the bottom of the IE screen. Please help guys, this is really annoying.
Please keep in mind that I reformatted not too long ago and it still hasn't helped. I also have tried on both IE and Firefox and neither of them work. I downloaded Javascript and Java runtime environment and nothing helps. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It is somewhat difficult to help in this case.

I don't have a gmail account, and I don't have access the the mail you are looking at.

Do you get the same behaviour on some publicly accessible web sites? If so post the links.

 

Sounds like something is mucking up the protocols registered in your system. In reference to the mailto: protocol, check HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail. It should be in there. Also, try resetting the protcol to your preferred applicaion in Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs\Set Program Access and Defaults
