I've been surfing the Web for years (Windows 98) and yesteday for the first time found my computer attacked. The symptoms are that my default home page (www.msn.com) doesn't come up but rather about:blank which offers connections to sites in a number of different areas and immediately a pop-up (or 2) comes up telling me my computer has been attacked and offering me a list of programs that for $40 can fix it. The other site I'm unable to get to is my hotmail account (which is what's causing me so many problems - I can live without my home page). Interestingly, when I tried to get to the Panda online scan, I also got redirected! I can surf regularly to other pages and can even login from the hotmail main page, but as soon as my account comes up, it immediately redirects to the aforementioned page and gives me the same popups trying to get me to buy software. I downloaded CWShredder and AdAware 6.0, but the problem continued, so I downloaded HijackThis and my log follows, but even after reading the on-line help manual, I'm nervous to decide on my own which lines to tell it to fix. If some guru could please tell me what to do based on the following (both which lines to fix and also if there's any additional steps I should take), I would be forever grateful.

Ok, the good news is that I rebooted, ran Adaware and Spybot - S&D again and they each caught a few more things. Now when I log on, my proper home page (msn.com) comes up, and I'm able to access my hotmail account. The only thing making me nervous is that that Spyware Begone (a pay program with a free diagnosis) has downgraded my computer from 22 problems to ONLY 17, most of which it claims are hijackers. I don't see any problems (yet), but I would hope they're not making this stuff up to get me to buy their program. The following is my latest HijackThis log - please advise if there's anything I should do further. Thanks again!

You need to follow guidelines! HijackThis is the last step and we have rules about how and when to post a log. If you are running Ad-aware 6 you are out of date.

Please follow all the steps in this Sticky thread < READ ME FIRST: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal > If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

NOTE: You should read the tutorial in this Sticky thread < Hijack This Tutorial And How To Post Your Log File > Do not post a HijackThis log until we ask you to and when we do it must be text document attachment to your message.

Update! Due to Hijack This logs destroying search engine and web site searches, we now ask you do not post your Hijack This log file unless requested by us. It is for advanced users, so if you do not understand how to use it, you do not need it....yet. Instead, please tell us in your post what symptoms you are experiencing so we can try and resolve it that way. When, and if, we ask you to post your log file, please attach it as a file. To do this save the log file and select manage attachments in a new thread to upload it. All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail, items in the tray, anything you can close... Close before running Hijack This!

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder or choose run from the download. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT
