If its not Yahoo, Google, MSN, Dogpile or pretty much any one work known search engine, it is probably spyware. You really need to read some of the threads here, it does little to holler HELP! without telling us what you have tried, what symptoms are occuring and at least what operating system you have. Odds are running Ad-Aware or CWShredder might help. Thanks!

I am running windows 2000. I can't say that I've really tried much. I cleaned out the temp internet files and looked for anything suspicious in the add/remove programs. I didn't find anything. This problem only began a few days ago. I also just managed to remove the home search assistent thanks to other postings i've read.

Read this and use the applications mentioned. Links to the applications are in the message. (well you will have to cut and paste them. They are not clickable links. I'll look into fixing that.)

I'm sorry, but there was nothing to read or any links. I tried the Ad Aware and CWShredder, but they didn't take care of it. I discovered a Help button on the search-to-find page and followed it. It says that it is in my add/remove programs under "Search Extender". I found it and tried to remove it, but it said that it was unable to find the link. Please help!

Sorry about that! Here are the links I was referring too:

You have already tried some of the above. I think you may have the HomeSearch hijack. Please get HijaakThis. Shutdown all applications especically browsers before running it and then post a log. Here is a link to HijaakThis:

I see you used HSremove but I still see some items that indicate problems from HSA. Your fix may only be temporary unless you removed it correctly. Try rebooting your system a couple times after doing some surfing and make sure it is still okay.

The lines I still see are:
    C:\WINNT\system32\addps.exe
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7BF7A265-E61C-2377-70CF-F1BC87FA3ABA} - C:\WINNT\ntbz.dll

You can have HijaakThis fix the O2 BHO line and then see if you can find the C:\WINNT\system32\addps.exe file and delete. But don't do either of these if after a couple reboots the problem comes back.

You need to follow the instructions in the link I gave you before:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=35407

You must shutdown all unnecessary Applications ESPECIALLY browsers which includes Internet Explorer. Look at you logs list of running processes. Tell me how many unnecessary applications you see and it includes IEXPLORE.EXE.

All of the below could have been shutdown but the most important thing to do is to shut down IExplorer sessions. I know sometimes it is not easy to figure out what to shutdown and in fact some items in your processes list are problems that would be hidden if you shut them down. But on the other hand some are no brainers like all the HP stuff and iTunes. Basically anything that you know what it is by name and you know you want to keep it you could shutdown before running a HijaakThis log.

    C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Active Monitor\imontray.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\B'SCLI~1\Win2K\BSCLIP.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe
    C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe
    C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\TextBridgePro11.0\opware32.exe
    C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd.exe
    C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\HEWLET~1\HPSHAR~1\hpgs2wnf.exe
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
    C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe
    C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Shared Components\Instant Updater\RuLaunch.exe
    C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Additional items of concern that need to be corrected:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xkvfmtz] C:\WINNT\system32\emlniz.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updater] C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1

    For WeatherBug see this: http://www.pchell.com/support/weatherbug.shtml

For the other two, fix the lines with HijaakThis, reboot in safe mode and delete:
    C:\WINNT\system32\emlniz.exe <--- the file
    C:\Program Files\Common files\updater <--- the whole directory

Something is messed up in the database somewhere. When you get back to that page, see the third Sticky titled: HijackThis How-To: Please Read Before Using Or Posting A Log File.
