I kept getting DNS errors form a antivirus company that starts with KAP. Since their customer service did not reply after 2 weeks I started to get nervous and I disabled it. Then I installed a trial from Spy Doctor. While I was online KAPER raised it's ugly horns. It started a update then there was a notice that my computer was hijacked. After that it displayed a error code of OsdMaestro. After that Internet Explorer 7 stopped working. My friend with a degree in computers has moved out of state. You are the only hope I have. Right now I am on Mozilla Firefox but it will not let me purchase any software to fix this problem. Otherwise things are great.
    Thanks for your help,

I tried it did find 240 errors that Reg Mech. missed however it would not fix them unless I purchased the program on Internet Explorer. Thanks for the idea.

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

When giving information on your problems please be as detailed as possible. A company that begins with KAP? I think that is Kapersky but could be wrong. Kapersky is a scanner and I have not looked into if they offer real time protection. Leaving out details could get you sent down the wrong trail and possibly lend to further problems.

I would be wary of programs giving huge amounts of warnings. Alot of false positives can be used as scare tactics so you will buy a less than desirable product.

Here is a good link to help you in protecting your computer. I would advise you pay attention to section 2) and pick one of the Anti-Virus programs from there. AVG is used by alot of people from these boards and is free.

Kaspersky is a very reputable antivirus software which has one of the highest ratings of all the antivirus companies. They update regularly and provide active protection. The version of Kaspersky I bought, which was 6.0 turned out to be too bulky for my older computer and I replaced it with AVG. However, the older versions were not as bulky and version 5.0 was particularly good. I would not worry that Kaspersky (which does automatic updates) is trying to get you to buy their stuff by giving you false alarms.

Is there any chance that you are running two antivirus programs? Do you have any remnants of Nortons on your computer?

No the problem started when Kapersky started its update. At that moment I got a notice on my computer that it was hijacked. I saw files flying out of it then the code OsdMaestro flew up. Then IE7 crashed. For two weeks before this happened I had been fighting with them about getting a refund because Krapersky would not update I kept getting DNS errors. They returned my first email in ten days flat by then it was too late for a refund & I purchased a two year package. After that I purchased Spy Doctor with Anti Virus. I have a friend with a degree that says that OsdMaestro is almost exclusive to HP computers. I am running Vista so microsoft will not give me another download the said it came with the machine. Should I rip out Spy Doctor & try another anti virus or just torment my friend with a degree in computers?
    Thanks,

Thanks for all your help! My computer crashed just at the right time. A great geek from New York saved me. He installed ZoneAlarm's Firewall for Vista. Then reformated my computer. Then he helped everyone else in our church.
It is running great! I still miss xp.I have internet service again. Thanks for all your help!
