I am currently running Wondows XP. I am experiencing some problems that i am not sure how to correct. I beleive they are all related. When i try to do a search off the start menu, the computer freezes for a minute, and never lets me perform the search. When i click on control panel, it takes about a minute to open. Also, when i click on folders on my desktop, they take about a minute to open. Finally, when I am in internet explorer, when i try to delete temp internet files, it freezes and says this program is not repsonding. I have been unable to find a solution to these problems. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Hi majikman,
I can't offer much help on this one, other than refer you to the spyware section of this forum. Please read all the sticky notes at the top of the forum page, and follow all instructions. There are extremely knowledgeable members that frequent the spyware section, as well as the other sections, that can give better advice and help than myself. Anything that I suggested would be a shot in the dark. :)

I think that Novice is on the right track here. Random freezes and search / find issues are sometimes caused by malware, for a start download the latest version of Ad-Aware here, http://majorgeeks.com/download506.html

If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware be sure to uninstall it first.

If this doesn't help I would post it Spyware also. Let us know.

Given that you have tried the other remedies have you checked what programs are running in the background which are taking up memory?? Very often these can sneak in to slow things down after you have installed a program or visited a site which has downloaded some background program without your knowledge. I'd be looking for what's starting up when the puter fires up
    Cheers
    Robert
