I have a problem, I have windows 2000 and when I go to boot my computer it starts the process, then a blue screen pops up and says something but its to fast to read and then reboots. I have tried to start the computer in safe mode, same thing, I tried to go back to last good configuration, wont work. Am I totally screwed here or is there a way to fix this? Please help!

Ew! You can't boot into the OS at all?

Can you try to boot from the Win 2K CD?

I would try but I do not have the disk. Is this the only way to fix the problem?

You can make a new boot disk from files at www.bootdisk.com

Is there an option to boot into command line? I don't imagine there is in Win2K...I can't quite seem to remember...

OK I might sound a little bit dumb here lol but what is the name of the file I am looking for. Can I put it on a floppy disk or does it have to be a CD?

Yes, you can put it on a floppy. IIRC the boot disk for Win2K will take 4 of them!

The file you are looking for should be a link to a file called makeboot.exe Running that program will load floppy disks with all the file you need.

Have you installed any new software or hardware?

Thank you, I will try it when I get home. I saved it to a disk, I am a little confused though it said windows 2000 which I know I need, it said disk 1, 2, 3, 4 like you said, but there was also something called makeboot.exe that you could save to a file, which I did but do I need to run that disk or just the 4 setup disks? I dont not know that much about fixing these things as you could see.

I'm fairly certain that both will do the trick for you. Running makeboot.exe will prompt you to insert floppies disk by disk, while it copies files, whereas the 4 disk links are just each of the disks' files individually.

Thank you for your help. I hope this works, not having a computer sucks... One more question if you dont mind, when I do this and my computer does boot, is this suppose to make it normal again or are there going to be more adventures for me LOL.

Oh, there will be more! Getting to the OS is just the first step...fi you are successful...we can do a malware sweep (there has been a major worm affecting Win2K recently)...and maybe a fresh install?

There's always new adventures in PC maintenance and repair!
