Please Help!!

OK I don't know a whole lot about computers but I put this one together and after about a week goes by all of a sudden it shuts off. Now I checked out the cpu temp and it seems ok but what else would be causing it to just turn off.Power supply?? I have no clue. One minute its on and the next its not. Please help me before I burn up this board..I have an Abit KV7-V board with AMD 2900 and xp pro...with no sp1or2...Thank You so much....Rita

 

Wow that was a very fast response. Thanks for taking the time. No mine totally shuts off. But it started doing it about two weeks ago then I slapped the cpu on this board (sine they came together) and wouldn't you know after a week it started again. I was checking the temp in bios and watched it steadily go from about 48c up to 61c in a matter of three maybe four minutes. But heres the strange thing so I left the bios went and did some surfing then restarted it and it was back down to 48c again and started to slowly go up. then I exited the bios and boom off it went. It just started today and has shut off already three maybe four times. Maybe you might know??? Oh thanks so much for helping me..Oh I put this together myself(scary) so maybe its a setting on the board itself?? Thanks again...Rita

 

Since you put it together, did you check the CPU cooler, I mean if it is properly seated? Did you use the paste betwen the cooler and the chip? That happened to me and all I did was re-seat the fan and take off a little bit of paste!
