I have a computer that only has a dialup internet port, so I can't connect to the by no way other than dialup. Someone told me about something like a Cable adaptor port I can connect into the Dialup phone line port to use so I can connect my Cable modem to the computer. If anyone knows what this is called and what I'd be looking for it would be greatly appriciated, also wondering what something like this would cost. You can E-Mail me back here or at HlynnWeaver@aim.com. Thanks so much for reading my post.

There is no adapter that will allow you to connect your dialup modem to a cable modem. You will need a network interface card (NIC) like this:

They can be purchased for around $20 at electronics stores or even Wal Mart.

You would use an ethernet cable, which looks like a phone cord except the plugs on the end are larger, to connect the cable modem to the socket on the network card. Some cable modems can be hooked directly to a computer through a USB cable also.

i think your friend was talking about ADSL technology, it's also uses telephone cord, but it's much faster, and the telephone line is never busy.

Have to agree with just playin I have'nt heard of such an adaptor. The phone is generally an RJ12 jack while ethernet is RJ45 the are very similar in shape but 1-2mm size difference (if you plug the phone jack into (RJ12) it wont be snug and wriggle therefore will be the ethernet RJ45 (LAN) socket). Card is the cheapest and most sensible option. If you are using a laptop it will need to be a PCIAMA card with ethernet output jack.

But it does not plug into a dial up modem.

It would if you were using an external fax modem for faxing from the computer ... ;)

Also, if it comes to it, most of the time you can connect a cable modem via USB, though, it will not operate as fast as going through a NIC.
