Please! Please! Please!

I have a dell running windows 7. I turned my computer on one day and within 5 minutes starting hearing ads in the background but there was nothing open. After days of trying to figure out what the hell was going on I was able to get rid of the background noises but now I can not connect to the internet. It says connections are available but when I try to connect it just says unable to connect to internet. Obviously when I got rid of whatever it was in the background it took my ability to connect to the internet too. Before I chuck this thing out the window I'm turning to you guys for help!!! Please!!

This sounds like a virus or malware issue.
