    Hello all,
Heres the story, my wife's computer (Dimension 4550, Win XP) was working fine this morning, surfing the internet with no problems. Went out to run some errands and upon return I clicked on the Internet Explorer icon and I got "The page cannot be displayed" message. Glanced at the address bar and it was this huge long web address. Her homepage is yahoo. So we ran Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper and they both came up with alot of items from just an hour or two of sitting there, thats how long the errands took. We currently run a cable modem with Norton firewall, but I guess it couldn't stop this virus/trojan. Currently I am utilizing our spare computer on dial up, this is the only way we can access the internet. The cable modem's lights are all lite up for Data, PC, Power and Cable. After running all the spyware software we were able to reset her homepage to yahoo but we still are getting the message. Here is the log from HJT:

EDIT by chaslang: Unrequested, inline log deleted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Steve

Steve, welcome to MG's. However you must follow guidelines here on posting Hijackthis logs. Specifically when and how to post is important. Read and follow the info below.

You should attempt to follow all the steps in this Sticky thread < READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal >

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

If still having a problem after the above, you should read the tutorial in this Sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log file as an attachment to your message. All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Make sure you have HJT version 1.98.2 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment.

I see a few potential problems. You have WinXP SP2. Did you disable its built in firewall? You also state you have Norton Firewall and I also see Zonealarm's firewall. You must only run one firewall. This alone could break your internet connection.

You should also look in Add/Remove programs for anything looking like:
    MyWebSearch or MyWeb
    Windows TaskAd

Uninstall them if found. Then do the following:

Make sure you have system restore disabled and viewing of hidden files enabled (per the tutorial).
Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\2.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL
    O2 - BHO: Search Relevancy - {1D7E3B41-23CE-469B-BE1B-A64B877923E1} - C:\PROGRA~1\SEARCH~1\SEARCH~2.DLL
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows TaskAd] C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd\WinTaskAd.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00021671.exe

Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd <--- the whole folder
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.
