This is a new Comp using the following:
    AMD Sempron 3mhz
    512 RAM
    Windows XP

If I leave a USB device pluged in the Comp hangs on start up. If I unplug it every thing starts fine. I'm sure you may need more info I'll get what ever you need. Thanks.

WOW - That's a really slowwwwwww computer! (I kid, I kid... look at your post....)

In my own experience, not all usb components are created equal.
I'd bet dollars to donuts that a different manufacturers component
    would work.

I have tried 3 types of devices. 1 came with my new GPS and works on any other machine I use.

It would be helpful to know what type of device you are talking about.

I have an external MMC/SD card Reader. I don't think the USB devices are the problem. Does anyone know of a XP issue? None of the help or wizards are finding anything. All those tests say every thing is working properly. I can plug the card reader in once running and do anything I want, only if I leave it connected and shut down will the computer not start agian.

Check motherboard drivers if the usb connections are onboard, or check drivers for the usb if it's an internal pci card.

I ran into this problem when I tried to leave a SanDisk Cruzer, flash drive, plugged into the USB port. I tried the flash drive in two different computers and neither one would boot up. Thought it might be a bad drive so I returned it and got another one. Had the same problem with the new drive.

I have JMTek brand of flash drive that works perfectly with no bootup problems. As previous poster suggested, brands do make a difference.

This post probably isn't much help to you but I thought it was worth sharing my experience.

    Good Luck

Thanks Guys. The Problem was in the USB Connector to the Motherboard. Apparently mine likes the ground pin on the auxilary pin. Once the connector was changed all worked OK. I thought yopu might like to know, it may make a difference if you are having device trouble but can't find a software issue or your USB device works on other computers.
