Hello, I am having an infuriating problem with plug and play devices on my laptop.

Every time I plug in any device I get the "Found new hardware" wizard asking for drivers. The devices should not need drivers, but are never recognized by windows.

For instance, I have a compact flash card reader (ImageMate CF SDDR-91)
I can not get it to work no matter what I have tried. It is getting power, but doesn't show up in the drive list and requests a driver every time it is plugged in. I can not find the driver on the sandisk website, so I am just left with no ability to use the card reader.

Updating the driver in device manager doesn't work either, it shows up under "other devices" as "ImageMate CF" and has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point telling me "There is no driver installed".

I try updating driver software, and as I have no disc I tell it to search online for software. Here is a screenshot of the result.

If someone could help me get my head around this problem I would appreciate it immensely as I really need to be able to access my photographs.

I am running 32 bit Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition with SP1 on a Compaq Presario CQ70-211EM Notebook PC.

Thanks for any help given, this is driving me insane.

Is the Plug and Play service running? (Control panel/Admin Tools then Services)

Next some people mention enabling it in the BIOS. I've read posts that say, "yes it appears in the BIOS" and others that say "no nothing about plug and play appears in the BIOS". Have a look there. Not sure what to tell you if it is not in your BIOS.
