i have an intel p4 3.2 ghz, 478 socket with 800mhz fsb, on a intel d865glc motherboard. i was wondering what speed ram i would need to acheive maximum performance.

    what i originally thought was 4x256mb @ddr400 = 800mhz.

i would like to reach 1gb of ram for my system if that is of any help. ty =)

Yes, you need PC3200 (or DDR400) RAM to match the FSB on your processor. 4x256Mb will work fine. I would probably go with 2x512 because it will cost nearly the same and you'll still have room to upgrade in the future. Not that you'd really ever need to with this system, but it's nice to have it just in case.
