Im thinking of upgrading my pc sooner than later....add in an extra gig for memory and adding in a new Gpu. I found this at compusa for 79.99..

How much of an improvement will I see. My 6600gt cost me $200.00 and this is in the 7 series and only runs 79.99..

    Its also a 256mb gpu surpassing my 128mb 6600gt...

Is this a rip off or just an incredibly priced card? IS this worth upgrading my pc with???

    Any replies will be welcomed.

IMO, you'd probably see a moderate performance increase. The 6600GT runs GDDR3 memory, and while the 7300GS has more memory, it's clock speed is only slightly faster ( +166Mhz). Not to mention it's memory type is GDDR2. The fill rate will be about the same, if only a moderate increase.

Is your 6600 card an AGP or PCIe bus? If it's PCIe you'd see an increase, but I highly doubt it would allow you to increase your game detail settings.

The 7600GT however, should be a vast improvement over your 6600, and shouldn't move over the $200 mark. Newegg.com has them around $169 and up. Check out the specs on that one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133150

if anything you would see a performance DECREASE. The 7300gs only has a 64-bit interface and 4 pixel pipes, while the 6600gt is on a 128-bit interface with 8 pixel pipes. It also smokes the 7300 as far as clock speeds go. The lowest id go is a 7600gt which would be a definite performance increase over your 6600gt. A 6800gt or gs would be good as well.

Thank you for the clarifications Ice and Viper:cool: ...And thx for the link Iceman, $169.99 is a really good price for that card. I just wasn't to sure of the 7300 and it costing only 79.99... I guess I should just save up an extra week and buy the 7600.

My 6600gt is a PCI-e card. The price was more than the 7600 you posted...and the 6800 is waay out of my price capacity right now.

Thx for the replies, very informative:)

Im going with the 7600:D ( gotta save for a damn month:( ) my pc has a 350w psu, would I have to go up to a 400w with the 7600 ? Or would 350w be enough...

Excellent point a very common misconception is if the Vid Card has more RAM it should be better but not at all!

The pipes, Vertex Shader v.xx, Pixel Shader v.xx, the mem and GPU clock and RAM type are the indicators.

Thx for the reply:) , sorry about the late response...but sadly I've been battling a strong Oblivion addiction.

I had a feeling the card was slightly weaker( mainly because of the price) but I had hoped I could see a small performance jump with the 7 series( even if the card was of the weaker side).

But like everyone recommended...I saving for the 7600:)

    Thx for the replies
