Point of Sale System

I am not worried about what POS software. What I would like to inquire about is what size machine and cards/peripheral hook-ups I might need to build to run maybe 2 to 4 sales stations in a Liquor/Package store. Basically, can one tower handle 2 to 4 sets of keyboards/Touch Monitors/CC readers, Bar scanners? Or should I be looking at a office machine with small computers/stations?

Since you are getting no results here's my 2 cents. I was home office service for one of if not the first Point of Sale systems from about 1970. We did it with 4K of magnetic core memory. Really primative! My suggestion would be a LAN system. Master computer and wired or wireless remotes. The Master would have most of intellegence. The remotes would need very little. Small printers are available to print out tabs. Sounds like you have the programing already in mind. We did all pricing, payroll, inventory and other stuff. Hope this helps a little.

Look for systems from places that have gone out of business. Every register would need a computer, whether it is Thinnet, or small form factor, or a full size desktop or small tower. You can purchase complete systems, with the software.

Keep in mind also, that you will also need a dvr system, that records video, but should not be interconnected with the POS, vice-versa.

 

Thanks, wasn't sure if two stations could be run through one tower.

It can if it uses Thinnet. Make sure when purchasing through ebay, that you have a period of remorse, and beware that majority of the sales on there are as is, but you can get some decent deals if you search. If you do purchase one through ebay, run through the steps in the malware forum, to make sure that they are clean, if they come pre-installed with POS software.
