Deus Ex all the way. Though you really should play the first one before you start on Invisible War. You'll understand the game so much better and the first one was a much better game.

Cool, and since Deus Ex: Invisible War is only 4.99 @ Gamestop, I'll prolly get both. But I cant seem to find the first game, is it available only for download?

    Thx for the reply!

I never got round to playing Invisible War but loved the 1st Deus Ex... A huge game that could be played so many different ways in a variety of different approaches... Incredible. I might dig out my copy and play through it again. :)

Great game Deus Ex, you'll love it.

Just don't be in a hurry to finish each level until you've looked around everywhere, it's a pretty big game.

Sadly, I don't own Invisible War, but it's on my want list. :)

Thx for the reply Quick, I ordered them both now( Deus Ex + Invisible War) but still thinking about Boiling Point, its been compared to FarCry and Farcry is one of my favorites. But Boiling Point recommends a 256mb Graphics card, and I only have a 128, how much will performance suffer?

Thx for the reply Insom, Deus Ex:Invisible War is only 4.99 @ Gamestop you should try and get it. And the link Requisition gave had Deus Ex for 1.89( new)...but you said you had the first one already. Is this game a FPS or RPG, most stores have it under RPG but it looks like FPS....?>?

    Thx for the reply guys:cool:

Personally, I don't think Boiling Point is worth getting, but that's my opinion.

I found it buggy and not that enjoyable.

As far as Deus Ex, it combines elements from a first-person, adventure and role-playing games, so it's hard to accurately label it.

Boiling Point is buggy? Thx for the heads up Insom, I think I'm done here then. And I already ordered both Deus Ex and DE:Invisible War....so thx for your replies guys very helpful:)

And have fun playing Deus Ex. :)

Before you play Invisible War, it's worth downloading the community texture pack - this makes the game look even better than before. Doesn't add to the gameplay as such, but nothing wrong with some free eye candy :)

2 Great games - the first is a real thinker, and IMHO, the second has a great atmosphere to it.

More than enough to play it, it had nothing to do with resources, more like buggy code.

Damn so Boiling Point is just half assed the whole way through. The reviews it had under it all claimed the same thing you did Insom, but I figured that most ppl didnt have the right specs and so added to the buggieness of the game. Thx again for the heads up Insom! ;)

I downloaded the texture pack for free.
it was a while ago, and the link may now be dead, but it's worth Googling around for a free download.

Patches and Mods are usually free.

Some sites try to charge for the privilege. Just do a Google.

FYI, there are no official patches for the original Deus Ex.

Yeh, Im starting to see that. I just got in my Deus Ex:Invisible War and started playing. Damn game is good! I couldnt find many mods for DE2, and I had hell trying find the patches, but I did do a google and found Eidos had the v1.2 patch for free. So thats taken care of...

I may buy a subscription at FilePlanet for my DE 1( if it ever gets here) but its sad that all these sites are pay sites. I have all the Sims( 1 and 2) and nearly everything is free or could be traded for...

    Thx for the help Steev!

Hey just for future info, is there any other games that have the same type of game play that resembles Deus Ex, games that have more than 3 or 4 ways of completing missions. Even though Deus Ex is so old, the game play is more than superb, I'd love to find some more games with the same game play.

Thx for all your help guys..:)

Did you ever get Soldier of Fortune Double Helix?

It's not like Deus Ex, but it's a superb game.

System Shock and System Shock 2 are also very good.

Chrome is OK, not as good, but well worth having.

I did order SOF:DH frm Amazon and never recieved a confirmation email from the vendor, so I cancelled it. I have been looking and keeping more than an eye out for that game but seems hard to come by...and right now my funds are alittle depleted.

System Shock 1 and 2, sounds great, I'll check out the screenshots when I find them. Do any of the games you listed play out like Deus Ex? I guess I should elaborate better...I mean do these games have that O so yummy satisfaction of the FPS and RPG combination like Deus Ex does? I love the way the game combines both FPS/RPG styles.

    Thx for the reply Insom!

Yep, System Shock are somewhat similar in style and gameplay.

Read some decent reviews and screenshots and see if you'll like them.

Deus Ex is better than all of the competition. Invisible war is not though, strictly average that one. For it's time Deus Ex was years ahead and I couldn't stop playing it for weeks. I'd even say that in fairness it's a better game than System Shock 2, although SS2 is probably my favourite game of all time on the PC. I heard they brought out a patch that removed the spiders because some people could not play the game with them around and therefore never finished the game. :)
There is a rebirth project for both deus ex and ss2 to remodel and retexture the games to bring them back up to date for people who have yet to play them. There is even one for Deus Ex 2 that retextures the entire game making use of the extra power the PC has over the flagship machine for the game the xbox.

The SS2 and DX2 ones are the most complete, last time I checked the DX1 project was still much in progress but that was before christmas. It looked great though.

Wish there was more games like those 2 but I really can't think what else to compare them to.

What I'm amazed at with Deus Ex, apart from being years ahead of it's time, is the size and quality of the game, even though it's only 1 CD.

  33. jedandjess

    jedandjess Private First Class

Yeah that shocked me as well insomniac. I remember the first time I played the game was probably 2-3 years after it's release in 1999, but halfway through the game I started thinking WOW this is huge and every area is as compelling / interesting as the last. By the time I reached near the end of the game around Vandenberg it was obvious that £10 spent on the game was like giving it away for free it was so big. Like you say I couldnt believe it was only on 1 CD. Plus all the different choices you could make and the open ended gameplay hadn't been done in an FPS before.

Man if only DX2 had lived up to the hype.

  34. Steeev

Yeah, goes to show that most of the budget and disc space goes on Fancy Dan effects, which is great, as long as the plot-line's there with it.
Same goes for the film industry. In amongst the mega-buck productions, you'll find the odd low-budget gem.

  35. *WavyGravy*

Im still awaiting DX1, but DX2 is pretty good. Lotta info on one disc, but the story is solid. And I keep hearing that DX 1 is better than the second. Thx for the links Jed!

I spotted System Shock1 and 2 for 69.99+ on Amazon, game must be damn good. I may try to get SS1, but I'll have to wait for the other.

It sucks if there arent any more games that resemble DX1 or 2, are there any plans for a DX3?

    Thx for the replies guys

SS1 is not realy worth a look these days, but 12 years ago it was amazing. Id definitely buy SS2 though at any price and know that I'd get a great game experience.

SS3 is coming, google for BIOSHOCK, but if it will be as good as 1 or 2 I don't know it's being brought out on console first (PS-3 I believe).

That seems quite expensive for old games, WavyGravy!
I did have a quick look, and you'll be glad to know a Google search bought up texture packs/game improvements for the System Shock games as well! :D

I've never seen them on sale, but there should be no reason why you can't get them for next to nothing as they are pretty old.

Shop around, I'm sure you'll find them.

Wavy, I stumbled on some extra missions for Deus Ex when you get it.

    It's called Zodiac.

I think it adds an extra 6 missions.

I've only just started playing the first one, and it's very good.

Only bad thing is that there are no character voices for obvious reasons (only subtitles, speech bubbles and music etc), but gameplay is the same.

You get to play Paul Denton this time instead of J.C Denton.

Hey thx for the link Steevo;) Im still awaiting the arrival of my Deus Ex game ...bought it brand new from Amazon for $0.01, but I paid $5.83 for shipping:rolleyes:

    Great link Steev.

edit: Insom, reinstalling seemed to solve my crash problems with Deus Ex:IW....but..I am not able to patch the game. The v1.2 patch seemed to screw up my game, which caused the crashes...damn patch. Thx for your help bro !

Hey just got Deus Ex in today. Damn Amazon didnt specify that it only runs on Win95/98:rolleyes: . Anyone ever have any trouble playing this game in Compatibility Mode with WinXP? Hope it works.

It wouldn't hurt, but there is no need to use compatibility mode.

It installs and runs fine on XP, I've just finished playing it again with no problems.

When you finish playing, I suggest you download the extra 6 missions that I linked (zodiac).

  44. *WavyGravy*

    *WavyGravy* Corporal

Yeh, it did play fine without using compatibilty mode, but I was fearful for my drives. So no harm can come from this? Thx for the reply Insom...

    Now to download these missions..;)

  45. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

No, no harm can come from this, you aren't doing anything wrong anyway.

I suggest you first play the game to the end, then install the extra Zodiac missions.

Reason being is that it overwrites any saved games in Deus Ex when you save in Zodiac.

When you want to play the Zodiac missions, you need to start the game not from the normal Deus Ex executable, but from the Zodiac one or it will crash or be buggy.

When it installs, it asks you if you want a shortcut on your desktop, which is the easiest way to start it.

Have fun, the missions are great, and most are HUGE!

I noticed you have a Via chipset in the HP (don't know if that's the machine in question?).

Have you installed the latest Via 4 in 1 drivers?

There are two packages, the one for SATA is available HERE.

    The other one HERE.

If not, post back with either the full specs, or preferably an Everest log attached.

Thx for the reply Insom. Heres a full Everestlog, I dont currently have any games on my HP( the one you listed, but thats my fault for not being clear enough or more specific) and Deus Ex is on my other pc. I was worried that the Error Report maybe harmful to my cheap sound card, so Thx again for the help..

edit:Can't seem to upload the file, I've used Zip, MSWord, PDF and txt and the file is still to large....approximatly 4,551kb and compressed its still 451kb. But its a Full Log, maybe I should just give you an everest sound/hardware log....??
