Poll:Which IM do you prefer?

I use Yahoo! Messenger. If daughter's friends change the background it freezes. Heard new version isn't good.
So, I wondered which one you all use and why?

 

i use all of them but yahoo. because yahoo is stupid and makes it impossible for second party programs to use their network

MSN Messenger/AIM Messenger

I have tried all of the instant messenger programs and believe me MSN messenger is the best. There are so many features to use and it correlates well with msn services. Too bad I only know about 3 people that actually use MSN messenger, therefore I am somewhat forced to use AOL Instant Messenger which is my second best instant messenger program only because everyone at school uses it. I hated ICQ because I just did. There were like no features and the ones they had were obsolete. I also didn't like the numbers and the whole look of the buddy list and message window. I have also tried yahoo messenger and found that to be very annoying. It is hard to uninstall the whole thing and the interface needed an face lift. I didn't like the message window either. Now that I remember the one reason that I don't like MSN messenger is the fact that you have to pay to use chat rooms :-( but then again, I'm not in a lot of chat rooms and the ones I am in are on yahoo.com. I hope I have provided a good amount of information on why I chose the things I did. I want people to respond to this post also. Tell me why you agree or disagree with my reasoning.

 

All of them, through Trillian. I don't actually have a preference at this point, they're all interchangable, but I have some friends who prefer to use one over the other. The only thing is I wish they'd all use Trillian, because some of the smilies I use don't show up for those who are using the regular programs.

 

Yes, that and sometimes Trillian loses your buddy list. I had this happen once, luckily I backed it up through AIM.

That day was a nightmare though, I remember seeing the error "Buddy list can not be found" lol. Scared the crap out of me since I thought I had 200 buddies go down the drain.

 

Hmm, after the 3 minute limit, I realized I should have put "other".
Seems like a lot of people really like Trillian. I won't use MSN and I don't use IE anyway.
I will go research Trillian for now.

I've used Trillian for well over a year and I've never had it "lose" my buddy list. I also don't have the individual programs installed (except Yahoo, because they keep blocking Trillian in some sort of imbecilic power play BS). But then, I don't add everyone I've ever spoken to into the buddy lists, I only add people I speak to regularly and/or who are my actual friends. So if for some reason it "loses" them, all I have to do is look up their contact information through alternate means.

 

1. Nah, I was just talking to everyone in general since everyone is talking about using Trillian.

2. The 200 people are all people I talk too. In fact 152 of them are from school and the rest are really good friends or family members.

Do you buy trillian pro or use something like kazaa or some site to download illegally? jw because I want to know how many people actually spend money on little programs like that.

 

Yahoo for me too. Only reason is that a friend of mine in West Africa uses it and we converse via it. Was thinking of trying Trillian but the earlier posts make interesting reading. Bazza

Someone posted that yahoo messenger doesn't converse well with 2nd party programs such as trillian. Also, if your only using one messenger I wouldn't go with trillian. Trillian is more aimed at providing a buddy list that has all the messengers contacts on them. So if you only have yahoo there is no sense in getting trillian.

I use AIM, simply because almost everybody I know uses it also, and there would be no reason for me to use any other messenger service since I don't know anyone to chat with on it

Okay Ace, You have all the IM icons by your sig, so do I have to get all those and then consolidate by using Trillian? I was hoping it meant I could get Trillian and talk to whoever? My sister has MSN and wants me to get it so we can talk, I don't want it and besides I don't know if it will work with Opera. No way am I putting anything to do with AOL on my pc!

Haha, that's okay. I hate AOL also. I used to have Trillian, and you only have to download that one program, not all 4 or 5 messengers and then Trillian.

It was only $20.00. I don't need to steal for $20.00 worth of software that makes my life easier. So yeah, I bought it.

 

I use NetMeeting. I like the camera feature, being able to talk, or use the chat board.
ICQ is my 2nd choice.

 

Me, I use MSN (with Messenger Plus! (I alpha tested it)) most of the time, but when I wanna chat to people on other networks, I use Trillian

Trillian only uses the AIM network but im with you i hate any thing to do with AOL too .....

 

I use MSN Messenger only ... yahoo is ok, i could deal with it but choose not to ... and AIM just bites things that I'm not going to mention right now, I have no clue how ppl tolerate using that thing, but to each his own i guess

 

ICQ. I've been using it since back in the day. I used to have a 6 digit UIN, but that (somehow) got messed up when I upgraded once...Now I have an 8 digit. All the recent upgrades are shit, though. I'm still rocking on my install of icq 2000b.

Oh, btw, In case you're wondering, with ICQ, the fewer amount of digits in your UIN, the more 1337 you are.

I acturally use Trillian, and that way I can access all of those. Trillian uses less resources than any one of those do.

 

Thanks to everyone. I got Trillian from here and so far so good. Didn't want to play nice with msn at first, but I think I did that the wrong way and got an msn # and then started Trillian. It's making everyone happy and not using up a lot of resources.
