Poor network performance

I’m using a Linksys 2.4 ghz Wireless-G router to network my computer and two others in the house. My Internet connection is via a cable modem.

The two “secondary” computers get a good to excellent Internet connection some of the time. But most days, from time-to-time, they completely loose or suffer from a very slow Internet connection.

At anyone time, by wife’s computer – which relies on a Range Expander – may have a very slow connection or none at all while my son’s computer gets good reception. But at other times, it’s my wife’s computer that has an excellent connection while my son’s is sluggish. I can’t detect any performance pattern.

The router, range expander and network cards are all Linksys and were all purchased at the same message.

Can you please suggest a reason for the problem and/or a troubleshooting procedure?

    Thanks.

Do you have a password key installed? Maybe the neighbors have free internet from yours. ed
