Hello all, I've been trying to get my computer to work with VoIP for a job opportunity. The company is Convergys. When I take a test of theirs for Voice Quality I get a bad score (it has to be a MOS score of 3.8 or higher). I also noticed that my MOS score jumps all about after taking multiple tests. I need help with getting a test score of at least 3.8 every time. I've been troubleshooting the issue using a document the computer sent to me and nothing seems to help the issue. I've even upped my bandwidth with my ISP and still get a poor score. I could use a hand as soon as possible. Thanks ahead of time!

    Hi

we tried to set up VOIP in a classroom setting.

One thing we learned was to make sure Port forwarding is correctly set up on your router, and to check the quality of any connections/cables that are used

also if you get your broadband over the phone then make sure every phone point in the building have filters plugged in.

I have cable broadband, Cox Highspeed Internet. I was told to make sure port 5060 was open. That's all the information I was given so I'm not sure what all to put into port forwarding into my Linksys for Single Port Forwarding. Perhaps you could tell me how to keep that port open on my router As well as the my windows firewall? Would appreciate it, thanks! :)

    oki doki,

    windows firewall is easy enough,

what windows are you running, I forget if you said(plus im old:cool)

basically you will have to open windows firewall, and add a rule to allow traffic for voip.
this may already be there( I suspect it is but check)

    router is easy too!

ROUTER: open a command prompt, type cmd in the start box or open Run and type cmd.

    type IPCONFIG /ALL

this give you your network info.
    look for default gateway!

it will also give you your IP, which you have to enter to point the voip traffic towards your computer

(my router 192.168.10.1 and My IP is 192.168.10.122)

    yours will be different.
if you type this in your browser bar(not Google search) it should give you a web page of your router.

the default login of your router should be labelled on your router (back or bottom)
login and find the firewall settings page.

    (what is your router?)

basically you have to add a rule to your router to allow traffic to come direct to your computer.
you may have to enable PnP as well, Google your router and do a little research, as it never hurts to learn these things for yourself ;)

this rule will most likely be a rule in and out so check that too.

right im going on, let me know how your doing plus that router info too

Ps. remember this, Google will hold all your answers, somtimes you will have to trawl for them but they will be there

    Regards

See if your ISP is doing any 'shaping'. Most cable companies offer VOIP service and may downgrade other VOIP options. Where's my tinfoil hat?
What is your upload & download speed.
What router do you use? You might be able to do some QOS (Quality of Service) tweaks to give VOIP traffic higher priority.

I have Windows 7 on this computer, and I have a Linksys E1000 router that I use.
