Yesterday, I downloaded all the available spyware killers, and ran my computer in safe mode. I used HMSRemove and first noticed that they used a blank page on my former internet explorer desktop link, telling me that they killed the problem, but they seemed to get rid of my toolbars for yahoo and google.

Everything went fine for about 25 hours, until I went into my other internet link and noticed the occasional ad pop up. Many of the malicious ads were gone, but I still get the occasional ad telling me I may have spyware, or an ad for cigars or a search window.

The computer works much smoother, since I ran all the killers on it. I did have PeopleonPage and VX2 malware on the computer, but they may have been gotten rid of.

My question is, are these pop up adds still spyware, and if so, are they dangerous for my pc?

I get very few pop ups now, but it does leave me to wonder.

Do you think running adaware or some other thing might get rid of the rest of this adware?

One of the pages starts with a 68, does anyone know what the 68 might mean--or is it a spyware, or worse?

Thanks for any help; and what would really be great would be a list of websites to avoid, from possible attacks. Hopefully, in the future, all spyware and malware will be easily gotten rid of with just a press of a button.

    Ah, the future.

    Thanks Guys.

    Yes you still have problems.

You should attempt to follow all the steps in this Sticky thread < READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal >

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

If still having a problem after the above, you should read the tutorial in this Sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log file as an attachment to your message. All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Make sure you have HJT version 1.98.2 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment.

I did run all of the applications right, but one thing that bugged me is that HSremove ****ed up my internet explorer.

I downloaded the Zone alarm firewall, and the shitty thing wont stop certain hijacks. grr.

Explain how HRemove messed up IE. We do not see problems like that.

ZoneAlarm does not stop hijacks. It prevents certain processes from getting incoming or outgoing access to/from your computer. Since IE is a process that you obviously allow access to, anything (like a hijacker) that is using IE is therefore allowed to get out.

If you have completed all the steps and still have problems, why haven't you followed the rest of my directions.

Because I am using my Sister's computer, and she doesn't understand why the spyware is there. She thinks only losers who go to crazy websites would download such stuff.

She got mad because HSremove put a blank page on the internet explorer starting page, with paypal requests for controbutions and stuff.

So it did not break anything. It just sets the home page to that because it has no idea what it should be and since it is only run when there is a hijacker problem, the home page needs to be reset anyway.
