pop-up log on screen in Outlook Express

Mail account is set up properly and works but user password is not being saved in the account set-up tools/accounts/mail/properties/servers box. I can still proceed with OE without entering the password, but this annoying box appears every time OE is opened. This issue arose upon installing a new hard drive in the pc. Contacts of course were lost and have been re-added. Have checked with Embarq ISP to confirm that account is properly set up. The password is checked to be remembered, but bold dots are not showing where the password is entered on set-up. Can someone suggest a fix?

 

Hello. Embarq is my ISP, also. Does your OE tools/accounts/mail/properties/servers screen look like this?:

Yes, mine is exactly like yours except that the bold dots in the password field are missing each time OE is opened...indicating that the password is not being remembered. I can work within OE but in order to receive or send mail, I'm being forced to re-enter the password for every session of OE. Thanks for the response.

Thanks. I reviewed them all and mine are like yours. It's just strange why the password isnt being remembered.

 

Hi I have embarq too and the only difference in our settings is that in advanced setting you have outgoing mail smpt set to 587 and mine is 25. that seems to be the only difference and I don't have any problems with the password not being saved.

 

Resolved! Thanks for posting everyone. Issue was fixed remotely by engineer at computer service store that changed out my hard drive. Took nearly an hour to troubleshoot and fix, including registry tweaking and working the file signature verification utility.
