populating slooooow.....

....takes from 4 min to 10 min to populate and open. Was consistently taking 10
min but removed some progs and now takes about 4 min. I have about 100 + progs to open. Is this a normal amount of time? If so, will live with it. If not. what do you suggest? I have a Dell 4600, XP home, 1 gig ram. 80gig hd dr with about 2/3rds still avail. Using FF as browser. Have ran all security progs (anti-virus, adware, malware etc).

:confused Whaaaa?!?!?!?! What do you mean... you have 100+ programs to open?!?!?!?

 

Sorry. what I meant is that I have 100 + items listed in add/remove programs in control panel. My daughter has more than that but hers populates and opens much faster than mine. thanks for the feedback.

What do you have opening at startup?

Start> Run> then type msconfig.exe

Click on the StartUp Tab and list here or take a screen shot and post as an attachment.

When you say you have run all security progs, what exactly does that mean? Have you followed the MajorGeeks.com malware removal procedure found here?
