Popups being caused by nonexistant file?

I'm getting a massive amount of popups and I just cannot stop them. I've used Ad-aware, spybot, and the other programs listed in the sticky. I've found that the popups are being caused through a program called l?ass.exe. I found this out because as soon as I kill this program in Task manager the popups go away. However, the l?ass.exe progam starts up again in a minute or two. By using another program to find the path of l?ass.exe it says that it is in my windows/system32 folder. Yet, when I go to that folder there is no such file. Additionally, when I search for l?ass.exe nothing comes up.

How can this l?ass.exe program be running if it doesn't actually exist? It doesn't make sense.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
