Does portable software really save disk space, system resources and RAM?

You can save disk space if the portable apps are on a flash drive or external hard drive.
I have a 120GB DAW on an external hard drive.

As far as resources, no. Portable apps are meant to have everything thing they need in one folder (sometimes one EXE)- no registry keys, no weird dependencies, no hidden settings files in your user profile, etc..they can run from any media you can read and write to.

    Yes.
One major advantage, when you remove it, you don't have leftover crud remaining in various places!
I normally choose portable, it available, for that reason.
