Ok I'm back again about my portscan issue and the internet. As I said in my first post a few days ago Norton began putting up an alert of an intruding portscan. The IP address for the intruder seems to be my modem. The Norton representative I spoke to said I should make a new firewall rule. I'm not sure I want to do this because I didn't need one before. I have gone through the steps for malware removal and am attaching all my scans. Please someone help because I don't want to reinstall my operating system to fix this problem.

Try this link. It has tons of info about ports and what to do with 'em, how to set 'em, firewall & router port settings, etc.... I took a quick look at your HJT log and it looks clean....

Thanks for your response. I should have said this at the beginning of my message...I can easily get overwhelmed reading information on what to do about computer issues. I like this site because it spells out what to do in baby steps. I've had my issues with Norton before where after paying the $75 dollar support fee we ended up reinstalling the operating system. I only have 80 some days left on my subscription but might not make it till then before I take it off and install something else.

But back to my problem....I now notice that my system restore does not work. Although it does work in safe mode. Do you have any solutions for that?

And did you notice that the counterspy program found a Backdoor.Rustock that the Norton does not pick up? Man, I feel like I spend so much time trying to keep my system clean with so many products it amazing anything gets past it!

So much for a "Quick Reply"

    backdoor.rustock found by Counterspy

As i was going through the steps to remove malware due to portscan alerts I've been getting from my Norton when I ran Counterspy it found Backdoor.rustock during its scan. It has quarantined it and now my question is should I permanently delete it through the program and does that mean I'm all clean? I've already attached the scans my scans in a previous message so I cannot include them here.
