Anyone been to guru3d.com and driverheaven.net forums pages lately. I tried three times and I get a possible browser hijack spyware deal there. At least that is what Adaware tells me. If this is correct then how can a site owner allow this. How could he possibly get paid enough money to lose his members. I know I am not going back there. Not that either one in my opinion was ever very helpful. I could be wrong but it seemed to me that a few helped a few of the same people. I asked a question and the only answer I got was one rude remark. Not very pleasent poeple. Tell me if I am wrong it's always possible that it is something entirely different and only my twisted way of seeing things.

I went to both sites and Spyware Guard, which you can get here, didn't pick anything up. Maybe it was a false positive? Can you tell what was trying to be installed?

Well, of course we would rather you came here, but those sites can be useful on occasion. I am unaware of any hijackers being run from there, but as a webmaster I can tell you that we run our ads through a third party company, like most and sometimes a bad ad gets in without anyone noticing. When this happens, an honest webmaster removes them. We have removed repeated ads here for crappy products and sneaky advertising, but we are not perfect, dont always catch them and\or right away. To the best of my knowledge, those webmasters are decent people, so I highly doubt it was intentional. If you email them, be sure what exactly caused this to happen or it is of no use to them because they probabyl do not know either. Assume in this case, its not something being done intentionally by them and it will help everyone. I hope you come by more often :)

I tried guru3d again just minutes ago and it did it again. When I click on ati radeon drivers thread I get a quick flash of a box that is so fast I can barely see it then a full page with no x button only click here to enterin center of page. If it is clicked then I run adaware it comes up with a possible browser hijack in registry. Three times yesterday and once today that's four times. The only two places I have been this morning is here as always the first place and to guru. Don't know why it would do this to me and no one else. Mabey a cyber devil is chasing me. I certainly agree that Major Geeks is the best but even when you have the best you still like to look around. You don't know how sweet sugar really is unless you taste the salt.

Edit- Forgot to mention I think it is an add to sell a program for getting rid of spyaware and popups. it is just a flash so fast my eyes can't focus exactly what it says but I can see that when I have to close with ctl. alt del. then I am off the internet. I'm gonna try again to see if I can find out more about what it is.

Ok I just tried guru3d and driverheaven again and it was not there at either place. First time this morning it was there now no. All pages worked fine. No sign of the cyber devil. Ran adaware only usual data miner. Looks like it is not the fault of the owners and just another of those sneaky spyware adds trying to hijack my browser and also sell a program to get rid of what they are creating. I know they probably make a lot of money but doesn't that sound wierd and ingenious at the same time.

I stick with my original guess. A sneaky ad got in, during Christmas of all times, and it took the webmaster a day or two to know about it and remove it.

Are you blocking popups? That might help. The Google toolbar is ok, its free: http://toolbar.google.com or a 3rd party interface like MyIe2 or Avant Browser available in our browser section. Both kill popups VERY well and add other features to IE.

Let us know how you make out.

I agree with you Major Attitude that it was probably a thief in the night and not known by the adm. It is no longer there. Still don't seem like a very helpful place to me though. I have recently started using Zone Alarm pro and the warnings are as bad as the popups and spyware. I turn it off and on until I can figure what I will or will not miss. It will take a little time to learn the settings. Thanks for the reply
