possible "dead" processor

i have and AMD athlon XP 2200+ that i think is defective. i've ordered 3 brand new mobo's to try and use it, but when i turn the power on the boards wont post. they have power, and the fans spin, but nothing else....do you think it's the processor?? or have i really got 3 defective boards in a row....one is a soyo k7vme, and the other two were gigabyte with a via km400 chipset, not sure about the exact model number....any advice would be appreciated

It is most unlikely you would get three bad motherboards in a row if you are getting them from a reputable dealer.Did you get any beep codes on the motherboard, also did you try different memory and try the different memory slots on these boards.

 

i got all the motherboards from newegg.com.....quite the respectable company if you ask me. I tried the memory in both slots, but no change. No beep codes whatsoever. I have tried every single piece in another pc, except the processor, so it is my last conclusion. Brand new P/S, video card is currently in the pc i am typing on, as well as the HDD and the CDROM so the processor is the only other thing i can possibly think of. wish i had something else socket A to test it, before i actually buy a new one.....oh well....guess i will wait a while....
