Hi m8 what you have to do is post the name and make of your computer, how old it is,laptop/desktop,where the noise is coming from, the description of the noise and when it changed.A dying fan is pretty serious so if you can use another computer until you repair it it would be a good idea me thinks. :D

A Dell Dimension 4500, Windows XP Service Pack 2, its one of those type of sounds that you know doesn't sound normal, I'm almost certain its a fan ... I've had this computer a couple of years

Suggest you open the PC case, inspect the inside, Try to see if you can narrow down where the noise is comming from.
If it's a fan, probably either case or cpu fan, usually no big deal to replace either.
If you CPU fan fails, your CPU will overheat and fry.
Case fan, not so serious, but ya may experiance heat problems from poor air circulation.
Repalcement fans can be found at local computer shop or online for the cpu ya just need to know what size & type your cpu is, the case fan just the size, it's probably 80mm.

Sometimes Dust can cause extra noise, I'll bet your inside of your PC is full of dust, get your self some compressed air & do some cleaning.
When inspecting inside also make sure no wires or anything is comming in contact with any of your fans.

Well I got my can of compressed air ... are their any specific places I need to take care of more than others when I open my tower up?

    Thanks

Anywhere there is dust, blow it out. Make sure you get as much dust as possible out of the fans and the area around the fans. Also, see if you can get some dust out of the power supply. It likes to collect there a lot too.

Get rid of any dust you see, and pay special attention to the heatsink, and fan blades. I often use a Q-tip on the fan blades. It is sometimes possible to peel the label back on the centre of the fan and add a drop or two of 3 in 1 oil. This could prolong the life of the fan indefinately.
