I have an issue with my computer, where the browser and internet work fine until I do one of two things...

    A) attempt to submit a form within the browser
    B) attempt to send an email

This occurs in both Microsoft Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. I receive emails with no problem. However, emails will not send when I access my email through my ISP at their website or through Microsoft Outlook on my desktop.

When I use my laptop at work, I have no problems. When I bring it home and attempt to use it on my home network, I have the same problem as the other computer at my house.

Please if you have any ideas please let me know.

    Thanks so much,
    Meghan

Can you send emails from a webmail service like yahoo mail or hotmail? Have you verified that the correct SMTP server is set up in your Outlook account? You said everything works fine UNTIL... Does your basic web browsing stop working after you try to send an email (ie, does everything break suddenly)? Can you ping your SMTP server at your ISP? Have you tried manually connecting to the SMTP server using a telnet session just to see if a connection can be made?

OK, I apologize for being so general in my previous post.

#1 - Windows xp professional, service pack 2
#2 - Mcafee Virus (previously used Avast)
    #3 - 1 gig of RAM, 1.7 processor
#4 - Browser Errors occur in both Explorer and Firefox.
#5 - DSL modem Alcatel Speed Touch Home
    #6 - 4 Port Netgear Router
#7 - Both browser and email problems occur regardless of which one I use first.

I have two computers on home network. 1 primary desktop, and 1 business laptop. All Firewalls, to my knowledge, are disabled.

Let's start with the email issue:

Outlook 2002, fresh install, many reboots. Accounts created via specs of ISP. ISP tech support has verified that all POP and SMTP information is correct, as well as account login information. ISP states that everything on their end is running correctly. I can ping the smtp, and also telnet to it without error.

Email accounts receive mail with out error, but are unable to send. Sometimes, but not all the time this error message is received: 'Email message is unable to be sent because connection to your mail server was interuppted, please reopen your client and resend the message'. Sometimes it just hangs.

Attempting to use webmail from my isp results in hang as well, with the end result of failure.

Mozilla Thunderbird (fresh install) also has the same issue.

I am unable to try hotmail because filling out forms (like hotmail's sign up for an account) and submitting the information also causes the system to hang. Can this be a java problem on my system?

The laptop works fine at the workplace, with no errors whatsoever. However, a completely different email account is accessed at work. I'll be sure to attempt to receive mail from my home account while i'm plugged in at work tomorrow and post if it is successful or not.

This site is one of the few submission pages that allows me to post or submit information. I receive problems on ebay.com, mail.com, hotmail.com, dell.com, etc tec.

If anyone can shed some light or give some tips, i'd be extremely grateful.

    thanks for looking.
