I ordered a MOBO/CPU and a 2 GB stick of ram... for my dad... he plays low stressing games. so i didnt give him an amazing timed ram or mobo but the cpu is decent... heres the MOBO SPECS:
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard - Retail
    Memory
    Number of Memory Slots 4×240pin
    Memory Standard DDR2 1066
    Maximum Memory Supported 8GB
    Dual Channel Supported Yes
heres the memory i got for it..(wasnt even thinking about it when i bought it)
    Model
    Brand mushkin
    Model 991587
    Type 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM
    Tech Spec
    Capacity 2GB
    Speed DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
    Cas Latency 5
    Timing 5-4-4-12
    Voltage 1.8V

The GIGABYTE website gives this guide for RAM:
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/MemorySupport/motherboard_memory_ga-p35-ds3l_2.0.pdf
You say it has a capacity for up to 8G but I can't find anything on their site to confirm this.
The RAM you bought isn't specificly mentioned in the pdf above, but I think it should work.
I found this guide that compares various DDR2 chips:

For use in computers, DDR2 SDRAM is supplied in DIMMs with 240 pins and a single locating notch. DIMMs are identified by their peak transfer capacity (often called bandwidth).

Standard name/ Memory clock Cycle time / I/O Bus clock Data transfers per second/ Module name/ Peak transfer rate

    DDR2-800/ 200 MHz /5 ns 400 MHz /800 Million /PC2-6400 /6400 MB/s
    DDR2-1066/ 266 MHz /3.75 ns 533 MHz /1066 Million /PC2-8500 /8533 MB/s

I looked a little deeper into GIGABYTE's site and found
    "Supports DDR2 1066*/800/667memory
Dual Channel architecture supports up to 8GB by 4 DIMM slots "

Looks like you shouldn't have any problem with the RAM you purchased

I also have a Gigabyte MB and I allways run Mushkin RAM. Never had a problem with it yet. I just check to make sure that the voltage on the RAM falls within the specs of the MB. Generally, not allways, supported RAM is such because the RAM Man. paid to have it tested.

Remember, when you install dual channel ram to look at that section in your motherboard installation guide, for the proper bank to install 1 stick and sometimes you have to install 2 stickks, in the 1 & 3 banks or the 2 & 4 bank.
