    Hey -

Anyone know if it is possible (and if so, how) to power on a remote pc using SSH? I have a linux file server (running xubuntu 7.04 and samba) that I currently can communicate with using SSH, so I can restart/power down remotely. But is it possible for me to start it up remotely after it is off? Or does the computer have to be on for me to send it commands?

Go into BIOs and look under power management. I had a PC that would not shutdown because it was set to power up constantly. So at least you can remotely shutdown and the hardware will reboot.
I don't know if wake on lan may help you either..
