Our PC is old. We also have no tv but are thinking of getting one. I see all the models with PC input and Wi-Fi. I'm wondering what kind of features I would need in the tv to have it be the monitor for the computer and then what kind of computer products I would need to link into it. If we got a blu-ray player with wi-fi capability, would that be better than wi-fi in the tv set? How many HDMI ports does one need and are they separate from the PC inputs? We do have a wireless router.

Seems many are saying this kind of set up is buggy.

    Thanks for your time!

Number one thing you need to look at is the refresh rate of the TV that your buying. The higher-end models will have fast refresh rates. The low-end models will only be 60Hz.
I would recommend at least 2 HDMI ports. One for the Blue-ray player, and the other for HD cable TV if it's available. The faster refresh rate will give better viewing for the Blue-ray player. The fast movements won't look like a streak across the screen.
When It comes to using it as a PC monitor, It's not a problem. I'm using mine at 1366X768@85Hz, and the PC had no problem recognizing the TV as a monitor.
My TV don't have Wi-Fi ,so I can't give you any information on that.

I hope the information I gave you helps out.
BTW, the PC I'm using the operating systems are Windows7 and Linux Ubuntu.

I almost forgot to say, you will need a wireless keyboard, and mouse.

While this may be more convenient, its not a need by any means.
