Possible trojan

    Please help me, I've formatted my hardrive and reloaded on windows me, I ran mcafee anti-virus and it picked up five possible trojans, here is what the
    description is C:\_RESTORE\TEMP\A0004400.CPY, A0004491.CPY, A0004495.CPY, A0004561.CPY, A0004564.CPY, it say's that the disk is write
    protected, and that the trojan name is regseeker. I also have spy bot on my
    system and I wondered if this was the problem. I also downloaded a trojan cleaner from majorgeeks, and it did'nt detect any trojans. thank you in advance

    Hey RJ, maybe you should d/l HiJack This and run it. Then go here to intrepret the results. Might help :) Good luck

    edit: I found this on a google search. Tech TV seems to think regseeker is a good thing. I don't know, if it comes with lots of spyware attached maybe that's the reason it gets picked up as a baddie.

    Just to add to the good info that's been posted...

    That stuff McAfee found is in your System Restore folder.

    Disable System Restore (temporarily), and reboot to dump what's in there. Then run another virus scan (make sure McAfee is updated with the latest virus defs) to clean up any leftovers.

    One thing to remember if you suspect a virus or nasty and especially if your AV has found one and you are using an OS that has System Restore capability is to turn if off as one of the first things to do as this is a protected folder a user as limited access rights and by using the info Alan gave above you will remove the virus from reinstalling itself via system restore.
