possibly bad cd drive?

plays everything fine, it just wont burn anything now.
i got rid of the nero i had because i thought i t was that. i would make a list of songs then when i went to burn, it'd say drive is already in use
so i just got this free mp3 burner etc... etc... and go through and it wont burn either.
says tco error or some crap.
so the question is should i buy a new drive

 

well, i looked in device manager, but i'm not sure what u mean by conflicts.
and the help option does'nt help.because my drive reads and plays but i dunno y it wont burn and always says its in use

Drives can get locked like that when you install/uninstall a lot of burning apps
Theres several routes you can take but first off i would try The Nero info tool this can often unlock drives

ok i ran it then tryed to do a cd.it started out like it was fine,got halfway through calculating it,then i got that error msg again.drive was in use ...

 

tried 5 times to do a cd.it gets to then end,right before it would start to write,then error,drive in use by another application.

ok can you go to device manager, double click the problem drive select the driver tab. then driver details
post here all the drivers listed or post a screen shot


The other option is uninstall any burning software you have installed then click on this link

and download and run the fix this will reset all your cd drivers to default setting, therefore hopefully unlocking your drive
Be advised this is a vb script so you may have to disable your Anti-Virus before running, if your AV is set to block scripts
