I have recently upgraded memory on my computer and running into some issues when the computer starts. It starts with blue screen and "beginning dumping of physican memory". Here is the memory info

    I have windows XP
Computer HP media center pavillion m1170n (motherboard was replaced when purchased from Tigerdirect)
    Old memory: PC4200 DDR2-533 512 MB
New memory added: PC5300 DDR2-677 Mhz 1 GB
Please help me what I may need to do to fix the problem.

    Thanks!!

Are you mixing the two memory types together. That would be a no-no.

My question would be how you upgraded. Two sticks or just one? Is the old one present? You might need a BIOS update to handle to new mem as well.

I am adding two single memory sticks that is 1 GB each (2 GB total). The motherboard has two slots for the memory.
I am not mixing two different memory types and both are the same. I have taken the old 512 MB memory out and not sure how I update the BIOS or if needed.

    Any insights would be helpful!!!

It seems they have put a different motherboard than the original in the case.

The original could take 4-1gb of DDR; the current only has two slots and apparently can take DDR2.

I take it you can't run XP at all with the new memory?

Put just the original back in and run something like SIW and see if it can tell you the model number of the motherboard. That information should help someone figure out what the memory specifications are for the motherboard. SIW should also give you the version number of the BIOS so post that too.

I understand that it has a different motherboard but the memory that it had which was working- is PC4200 DDR2-533 512 MB. Shouldn't the PC5300 DDR2-677 Mhz 1 GB work? The computer is running and issues happen when I restart the computer after it is shutdown. It takes to me a window where it states it is "beginning days of physical memory" and not sure if the following make sense:
    0x0000008e, 0xl0000005, 0x805515A1, 0xb9AFA74, 0x0000000

    Thanks!

Are the memory modules of the same type?
I am referring to the ECC part .
Possible that you are using buffered instead of non-buffered.
    Or vice-versa.
One reason to know the motherboard model and number.

Sounds too me like you got the wrong kind in there if you have the wrong kind of mem then then the computer just will not work right most of the time. The PC 5300 you have there is 240pin and the PC 4200 is 200 pins so id say a wrong miss match of memory.too make sure you count the pins on the ram stick that came with the computer only the right kind can fit in it the PC 5300 you got is 240pin it is 40pins longer then the memory board slots can fit.Did you have trouble fiting it in.Or is it poped out a little.Pins i am talking about are the copper pins.
