I recently acquired a PC running XP and I get a couple of messages at start up which I don't understand, they are:
    1) Warning! The CPU has been changed re-enter CPU settings in CMOS
    2) Warning! Insert Key or clock Gen Watchdog

    Enter
    them and save

Re 1) What CPU settings are these and I understand that the Pent 4 processor IS original

Re 2) Don't have a clue what this means.

The final line is press F1 to proceed and everything loads as normal.

Not a a critical problem but if anyone knows what these mean and/or how to get rid of them, would be obliged

#1 You probably need to reset the CMOS in your BIOS. The motherboard battery may have failed (how old is the computer), or the oddball voltages from a failing PSU may have scrambled something up. Usually the CMOS is reset by removing the the little button battery and waiting a few minutes, then reinstalling it. It is possible in a worst case scenario that the motherboard failed and took out the PSU. First, either dust off your instruction manual or visit you motherboard manufacturer's site and download the manual.

#2 Your PC may be having problems with keeping the correct time and date
Again this maybe due to a problem with the BIOS/CMOS battery.

#3 If your saying that your PC works fine after pressing F1, then it's more likely the little battery is the fault, and nothing wrong with the mother board so don't panic !

Sometimes you can take the battery out, wait a few miutes, and then put it back in and that can resolve the issue, when you put it back in reboot and just accept default settings !

Hope this gives you the answers you where looking for !

    Rusty ! :)
