Post SP2 - security

Hey all:

I insalled SP2 over a fresh install of Pro, followed shortly by IIS, MDAC, ColdFusion MX Studio and Visual Studio .net and it's prereqs. Somewhere along the line some new security measure is now placing restrictions on the file level. As administrator I am getting "access denied" when I try to open any type of scripting or language file (.asp, .aspx, .js, .cfm, etc..). I can open the files through an application, but if I want to open one of these files directly into windows I have to open it with my server, paste it into notepad, give it a .txt extension and pull it over to the xp box.

I have scoured services, file rights, user rights, script rights... removed .net framework, IIS and VS .net... really, everything I could possible think of and still I get "access is denied" when trying to open these files.

If anyone has come across this issue, I would really appreciate a quick note.

When you are trying to open them directly, what application will be used to view them?

 

Greetings , I installed SP2 no problems,,just a question did you create a restore point before installation ???,,,if so try to roll it back,,,hopefully you will have access to the restore panel, and may fix the file system.....,,Glenn

I'm using Dreamweaver MX and Visual Studio.net to view files. Sometimes notepad, depends on what I'm opening them for...

Glennk721 - I don't use system restore and actually I really wouldn't want to roll back to pre-SP2 because my first install of SP2 crashed this box to the point of complete rebuild, so I prefer to avoid installing it again.

This is a pretty unique issue, I think, as I can only find articles on people losing rights to network assets and not individual files or file types.

 

Any possibility these files are in use?

I just tried to reproduce on my machine.

It worked fine.
