I have been battling a virus/trojan for weeks now and it has me defeated. I would gladly re-initialize and re-install the OS but I am caught in a loop at boot up.

I get the "log on to windows" screen but as soon as I click the OK button I hear the log off sign, get the message that my personal setting are being saved and then the computer tries to boot up and I am back to the "LOg on to Windows" screen.

I have tried booting in safe mode and booting from WIndows XP cd but I simply can not access anything but this continues loop.

Can some help me please? Thank you so much for all you guys/gals do out of the goodness of your hearts. Brenda

Can you enter the BIOS? Usually you hit DEL, F1 or some key several times before the OS starts to load. What kind of hardware are we talking about? Desktop, laptop... Model numbers would be great.

if you are trying to re intall the os with a cd you can enter the bios and make the machine boot from disk instead of hard drive therefore not having to log onto windows

Sorry for not giving you all of the proper info.* I am trying to re-initialize the hard drive of my Dell Inspiron 5150 running Windows XP Service Pack 3.* I had a very nasty trojan/virus and while getting rid of it, it has deleted or changed parts of the OS.* Currently, I am stuck in a loop at boot up.* I get the "log on to windows" but as soon as I click the OK button I hear the sign off sound and get the message that my personal settings are being saved and then the computer boots up again and I see the "log into windows screen"

I have tried booting from the CD and did a repair of the OS but it did not fix the problem. I would gladly re-initialize the hard drive and start over but I am not sure how to go about this with a computer with so little functionality.

Thanks for your suggestions so far but none of them have worked.
