Back Up Your Data

Backing up your data files (documents, pictures, videos, music, etc.), or your entire drive, is an essential part of overall computer security. Beyond data being at risk from malware, which can include your files becoming encrypted without the possibility of recovery, various other means of data loss are possible including a failing hard drive. Although we do not anticipate the loss of data files as a result of the instructions we provide, we highly recommend you back up your data files before posting your topic. Proceeding without a back up is done at your own risk. If you don't yet have backup software we would recommend considering Cobian Reflector. There is a list of additional backup software here.

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)

• Download Farbar Recover Scan Tool and note where the file is saved (Desktop, Downloads, etc.) <<< Important
• If your computer language is other than English right click on the FRST64 icon, select Rename, then rename it to FRST64english
• Right click on the FRST64 icon and select Run as administrator
• Note: If you receive a warning about the download it is a false positive detection. If a Windows protected your PC pop up window appears click More info then Run anyway. If the file is blocked by another antivirus program you can either temporarily disable the program or select an option to allow the download.
• Click Yes on the disclaimer and allow the automatic backup of your computer Registry
• Click Scan and allow the program to run
• Click OK on the Scan complete screen, then OK on the Addition.txt pop up screen. A copy of each report can be found in the same location as FRST64.
• Attach both reports to your reply
