Power bu

Hope someone can help me. When I tried to start my computer the hard drive would start to spin then just quit. The computer would not make it to the post screen, but there is power going to all of the componets. I tried a different video card which did not help. I pulled everything except the hard drive, floppy, and video card trying to get it to post. Still nothing. I have replaced the power supply which I thought might have gone bad. I have also replaced the memory. Nothing. Anyone have any ideas. They would sure be appreciated

have you tried clearing the CMOS? (commonly called clearing the BIOS, as this wipes the stored changes in the BIOS a resets them to default).

there is usually a jumper on your motherboard that clears the CMOS. With the computer unplugged, locate it in your user manual (usually next to the battery) and move it from default positon (covering pins 1+2) to the clear position covering pins 2+3. While in the clear position, take out the battery. After a couple minutes, replace the battery and move the jumper back to the default setting (1+2).

if this fixes the problem, you'll simply have to reconfigure the BIOS settings before booting the OS.

if this doesnt work, your CPU or motherboard may have died

 

Also think what you did just before the faliure usually this is the most likely cause,most often a hardware change or bios reconfig.
