Ok, first up: I'm not very PC technical so excuse my ignorance! Recently my PC has been making odd 'clicking' noises which, was suggested to me may be the hard disk on its way out-I only mention this in case it's related in some way. The other day we had a power outage while the PC was on, when I switched it on again the following day I got the BSOD and "a problem has been detected, windows has shut down to prevent damage". It is suggested on screen that I disable anti-virus, defrag or backup utilities. The technical info shows: STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x86F728C0, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000). When I try to reboot into Safe Mode it seems to get to d347bus.sys before another BSOD with similar msg as before. I am using a Dell Dimension 8400 running XP SP2. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When there's a power cut which causes the computer not to function properly the first thing I do is reset the bios, disconnect from the AC, take the side of the case off and find a small coined shaped battery, removed fro 10 seconds then replace, reconnect power and try to boot your computer. If your not comfortable doing this move to next step-

First select last know good configuration

The most likely cause of your problem is hard drive corruption so beg borrow or steal a windows xp disk then perform a windows repair install, this will repair any corrupt operating system files but will leave your personal files alone, if you can get the computer to work enough to access it you may wish to recover your important files first though-

    Here's a guide-

If after the repair install your still experiencing the problem, follow this guide and attach the dump file with your next post or debug itself if your comfortable.

Should have read down my link page a bit further.

Rnd do you know is you have Deamon or Alcohol installed? If not you could be infected with a virus.

If you do have it installed deleting the driver file should allow you to access the OS

There are various ways to do this, my favourite is to put the hard drive in another machine as a secondary drive, another favourite is to burn a copy of linux mint, if your familiar with the recovery console you can also manually delete individual files, whichever works for you.

The files your looking for is located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers if you arrange the files by type then search the .sys files you should find it faster then simply delete then try to boot windows again.
