Power Failure, Partion Wrecked

I had the power fail the other night, and some thing baked a NTFS partion on my hard drive. (NOT a bootable drive)

XP recognizes that drive, but w/o the correct name, and at 0 bytes.

I have downloaded some "demo" file recovery programs and all the files still seem to be there, but I'm cheap and don't want to shell out 50 or so bucks to recover the files..plus I'm a little short on recovery space. (80GB or so).

I am assuming that something has happened to the FAT table, hence why XP won't recognize the size etc.

Any ideas or suggestions. It would be nice to fix whatever is screwing the drive up as opposed to recoverying all the files, reformatting, and then putting all the files back on.

Thoughts?...anyone?

i've had similar problems and the only solution ive found is to use those file recovery apps ... although i would like to hear a solution to this other than that

 

Similar Problem, active@partition recovery can see the files, but me, well me, cannot afford to buy the program...

help would be appreciated...

PS Why do you want to format your HD?? -- Testdisk fixed the MBR partition table. Worked great. Everything recovered.
