I have read up on my problem and have narrowed it down to a motherboard issue I believe. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps from HP.

First, I have a HP Pavallion a6009n. The LED on the back of the power supply is solid, but when I press the power button the LED goes out and nothing happens. If it is an issue where I need to replace the motherboard, could someone please lead me in the right direction on a cost efficient way to replace it. The motherboard that is currently in there is an ASUS M2N68-LA.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There's a chance that the problem is not the motherboard, but the power supply (or both). If you have access to another power supply, go ahead and hook it up and see if things work out. You can buy a cheap used power supply at your local used PC shop for $10 or $20. You'll be surprised how helpful an extra power supply can be even if the problem turns out to not be the power supply. Anyway, if it turns out that the motherboard is at fault, you can buy identical replacements on Ebay for under $70 (link: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=M2N68-LA&_sacat=See-All-Categories). You can also use any Micro ATX motherboard (also known as mATX) with an AMD socket AM2 or AM2+, and DDR2 memory slots. There are MANY boards that will work:

The list is endless. Keep in mind that when swapping out a motherboard, unless it is the EXACT same board, you will need to reload Windows. You cannot simply swap out boards and boot up and expect Windows to run normally, it won't. Windows will crash due to the change of chipsets and hardware. However, you can usually perform a safe re-install without losing any data or settings or shortcuts. Just follow the steps in this guide.
