Power Options Corrupt?

I have a laptop that came loaded with Windows Media Center. When I click to try to access my power options in the control panel, nothing comes up. I am trying to adjust my power settings and I can not due to this. What can I do to fix this issue?

 

See if you can access Power Options using Run.

Start>>Run

In Run type "powercfg.cpl" (without the quotes), click OK

 

No luck with that. Any other ideas? Do I have major corruption? I would prefer to not re-install my OS if possible.

 

Have you checked Event Viewer to see if there are and errors associated with Power Management?

 

There seems to be a lot of listings in the event viewer, but nothing in regards to power management

 

What brand / model of laptop?

Acer Aspire 5600. Almost a year old.

 

If it has the Acer Empowering Technology installed that is probably the problem. It is their own utility for Power Options and different performance and recovery settings.

Look in Add/Remove and see if is listed. If so, you can remove it and that might solve your Power Options issue.

NOTE: If you do remove it I don't know if you can reinstall it if you don't have any discs with your machine. So keep that in mind. Set a restore point or something just to be safe.
