power supply for my dads pavillion

my dad has an hp pavillion 750n and needs a new psu. it needs to be cheap and is only temporrary, what do you reccomend.

his specs
1.6ghz p4 sckt478
512mb pc2100 RAM
Nvidia geforce 5200FX(128mb)
1 DVD drive
1 DVD/CD r/rw driv e
seagate 80gb IDE drive

does his tower require a special type of psu? it is a mini tower.

 

Yeah, I believe you will find the HP case and PSU to be proprietary. Unless you want to overpay HP for a replacement, or drill holes in the case to mount another PSU, I think you're out of luck. Check before coming to this conclusion, though. See if the screw positioning on the current PSU will allow for a replacement.

 

well, the PSU in it now is a HIPRO and you can buy that brand off newegg so I would be surprised if it is proprietary, it does seems small though, and there is very little extra room in that case.

 

apparently it is a 4 screw micro ATX psu, I checked all over and there isn't a single one in town, all the computer store people told me tehy are hard to find and my best bet would be online or frys in willsonville, this sucks.

whjat do you think of this? there were some that got better ratings but they had a stupid fan sticking out of teh top and I need one with a rear exhaust fan.

 

I have an HP with a mirco ATX MB that the PS went out on. Bought an ATX case with power supply for around 30 bucks and transfered all the components into it. Works like a charm without the expense.

Silly, thats not the top, the fan points down It suck's Hot air right off or just above the CPU then blow's it out the back, some actually have more than one fan.
