    Ok, here's my prob:

My computer recently started having some problems. It first happened during BF2. My screen went blank. I looked down at my comp, and even though it was still running, the green ring of light around the power button had gone off. I turned off my comp then restarted, and it was fine. I had this once or twice more, but it was rare. Then today I started getting it everytime I played BF2. So I ran a spyware scan, and defragged. It didn't help. It happened before I could even log into MxO. Now I can barely turn on my comp without this prob. Anyone have any idea what could be causing it?

I now get this issue everytime I start my comp, safe mode or not. Someone suggested a possible power supply problem. Anyone have any ideas?

    1.54 Ghz AMD Athlon 1800+

    60 GB HD
    Ati Radeon 9200 128 MB(AGP)

I didn't encounter any issues like this till starting yesterday.

does your motherboard have on-board graphics? might try that to rule out the graphics card .. (only good reason to have on-board graphics IMO)

    Yes it does.

so, uninstall your 9200 and install the onboard ... of course it might be a challenge because I'm not sure you'll be able to play BF2 ... might try lowering all the setting to minimum just to see if it keeps crashing in the same manner

The thing is, I can't even start up my computer at least not long enough to unistall my 9200 before I get this issue. I can't get to the account selection screen in XP before this happens. I got a little further in safe mode, but not much.

You have made sure that the ATX power connector to the mobo is firmly affixed....Just a thought

    Cheers

hm ... try removing the card without unistalling the ATI driver then connecting the monitor to the onboard .. you might have to alter a BIOS setting to make the board use the onboard graphics .. if it boots then odds are it's the 9200

what operating system are you using? and did you ever notice any artifacting? like weird cloud shaped anomolies on-screen?

Well, I'll try removing the card next, but now it happens as soon as I turn on my computer.

    Windows XP SP 2

    Nope.

Alright, I took out the vid card and connected my monitor to the onboard, still happens. I also noticed the CD Tray won't open, supporting the possibility of a power supply issue. I don't believe and loose wires outside the PS/Connected to the Mobo are the cause, as I haven't seen any loose, and checked them to make sure.

how big is ur PSU? are u sure that the monitor isnt the problem?

The monitor works, I know that, as for the PS size, it's whatever came with the computer, but I'll have to check it out.

Alright, the PS is a Max Output 250W. That's about all I can tell you.

The PS fan is turning, and is blowing air out of the computer as it should.

have you tried the monitor on another computer?

also try removing everything but one stick of ram, the CPU, the PSU, and the hard drive. and see if it will boot

The monitor isn't the problem. Tried the other stuff, removing it that is, no help.

yea .. I think it's just a matter of swapping out components untill you find the culprit .. of course sometimes the culprit can mess up working components depending on what exactly is wrong with it .. and of course to make matters worse it could be a combination of components

If I was you ... I would only swap in old stuff that you don't use anymore... of course it might be easier just to buy a new one, computers are pretty cheap these days you could buy one that would be an upgrade from yours for ~300$
