I'm replacing a motherboard for a freind in his Emachine. I've done several motherboard replacements/builds, and I've never encountered this issue....

Put the new board in and plugged in the PSU to both of the mobo connections, the 20 pin and the 4 pin. Connected the front panel connectors (pwr switch, hdd led, & pwr led) thinking all is well, I plug the power chord in and the powers supply fires up, along with the CPU fan!?!?  I never even hit the power button on the front panel yet!! So I hold down the main power button on the front panel, for atleast 5 or 6 secs trying to get it to power off...but it won't!! So I put in another spare, aftermarket PSU I had laying around, that has a power switch on the back of the PSU. Hook up the mobo connectors and plug'er in and boom...same thing!! So I unplug it and turn off the power switch on the back of the PSU...plug the main power chord back in, and ofcourse nothing happens so I flip the PSU power switch, and again...same thing!! I have checked and double checked my front panel connectors...made sure the CPU is in properly and reset the CMOS battery a couple of times now!! And I've even tried a third PSU!!

I have tried to google to see if this is a known issue out there in the geek world, but can't find ANYTHING related to my issue, so I was curious if anyone here has heard of such and can point me in the right direction!!

BTW...The new board is an Intel D865GVHZ, if that helps any!?!?

There is a setting in the bios that does this. its to set whether the computer boots up after a power failure.

Actually I got it...Thanks for the help, though!!

Apparently I wasn't leaving the CMOS battery out for a long enough time, so I took it out for a good ten minutes, and at the same time, just for the hell of it...I also put the cmos jumper on reset...and after all that little bit...It appears to be ok!! I am currently doing a repair install on the OS as we speak!!

    Thanks Again

    Roger
