    Hello again,

Over the past year I ahve added alot of odds and ends to my pc.

2 IDE HD (30 and 40 gig) (old)
    200 gig Seagate ata hd
    x700 Radeon
    2 gb pc3200 ram
    AsusP4P800 SE mobo
    P4 Prescott 3.0ghz (800fsb)
    1 extra case fan
and finally 1 gigabyte 3d Rocket pro cpu fan/cooler

In fact... the only thing I haven't touched is the case... and the power supply. :)
The power supply I have is an Eagle 350w which can run at 3.3v 5v or 12v

One IT buddy tells me that he "Can't beleive that thing even boots up!"
While the other IT pal says "Don't replace the PS until it burns out."
    Kind of confusing, eh? ;)

Lay it on me Major geeks! My fate is in your hands...
I am looking to buy a 500w ps that will not be too loud.

Thanks for any help in advance!

I cannot help you, but noticed the edited for spelling part and smiled broadly. Nice to know some people still check their writing. (Not implying that I always do.)

I would say definately upgrade, that stock PSU is junk and it isn't worth risking your hardware on a cheap psu, here are a few good PSUs from newegg, don't know exactly what your budget is.

I woudl go with the OCZ for power and quality or the antec for price. those are all good and highly rated PSUs

    Thanks for the response splitt3r!
The only two that I could make use of would be the first and last out of the four. I do not require a sli ready ps for this box becauase I plan on just using this one for occasional gaming and mostly officework. Also, there is no need for anything supporting pci express. I think the Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP seems to be the clear winner out of ther four because of the price and review scores. "She is a workhorse" :) nice!

Due to the fact that this comp isn't overclocked, this should do nicely. I really appreciate the input and the research. I looked into newegg for Ps solutions as well, but I wanted a second, third, fourth, and fifth opinion before I ordered one! What do you think gang? Do you agree with Splitt3r?

About the spelling comperroruter, old habits die hard, eh? I've been warned about spelling before on other boards in the past... I just didn't want to take any chances. :)

    Thanks guys,

I love my Antec TP 550w PSU. Antec Power supplies are, in general, considered one of the best PSU suppliers out there. Great quality, and a low % of DOA items is what caused me to buy an Antec. That along with their 3 year warrenty makes them winners in my book. Just my 2 cp!

Thanks for the input tubnotub! Yeah, last night I had a chance to read into ANtec more and they seem like a very reliable PS! I think I will place my order today for the one that splitt3r suggested earlier. Price is reasonable. Thank you guys!

The cheaper antec splitter posted is a very nice psu for the money and has the power right where you want it very strong dual 12v rails for future upgrades ie drives and video carda dn will happily feen your power hungry p4 3.0ghz I agree with your IT friend #1 I'm amazed it boots up with that 350w psu :)

    Rikky,
I was surprised it was working too! You know, for some reason I figured that I had somewhere around a 450w on this machine. (this machine is the one that I let my gf use, and the one that we use for general internet access)
When I looked at the label and it said 350w, I actually laughed. This is one thing that I had never really looked into as far as upgrading went, because quite frankly, usually I buy a new mobo and case when I upgrade and they always just include the ps. So thank you all again for the helpful suggestions!
Just proves what a cool community this is.

The minimum power supply you should use with a 6600gt is a 350w,if you read the box of all 6600gt's theres a warning,to be on the safe side its best to get a quality 450w

Splitter have you felt how hot your power supply is after a gaming session:confused:

no, but my video card hit 82C and I will replace the PSU ASAP, I can't afford to now, and I don't want to replace this POS with another POS, I might buy that same antec I reccomended to this guy.

The psu is standard ATX, the old HPs like my dads use micro ATX psus but this is a standard sized psu.
