I am trying to keep my old computer running with some upgrades these days. I currently have the original 250W power supply and an nvidia geforce 5500 (http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr55256ocp1.aspx) which needs min 250W. My question is whether or not i can hook up an extra fan to cool the video card since it runs hot in a poorly ventilated room or if it will be too much stress on the power supply. I have asked my friends who are more computer literate, but they aren't sure either.

A fan doesn't take much power. I think you would be ok.

thanks! does having the minimum power supply affect the performance of the card at all?

I herd it can effect the performance of the card but that seems like a low end card that doesn't need much power.
