Power supply

I was just wondering if there is an alternative way to power my laptop. My power supply has gone out but lucky for me it is still under warranty. The only problem is they wipe my hard drive when i send it in and i still have some information on my hard drive that i need. Thank you for your help.

 

I don't understand.
WHY would they wipe your hard drive if it's just the power supply?

 

Honestly i do not know. I guess it's just company policy.

 

I find that a crazy policy.
I think if you explained to them that you wanted to save what is on the hard drive they should do it and if not it might be worth paying to have it repaired at another shop.
I suppose it depends how much the material on the drive is worth to you.

 

They CAN back it up for me but it would cost me about $100. The stuff i have on there is not that important. I was just hoping that there was a way i could power it up so i could get the information.

 

I can only assume that the power supply you are referring to is the internal one and if you open the case it will void the warranty so maybe it's best you just let them get on with it.

 

If you had an external HD enclosure you could remove the HD and back up your data from another computer.
It seems ludicrous to me that they would deliberately format your drive. Are you sure they're not just saying that they can make a backup for you for $100 dollars but if you don't want this and something happens to your drive while it's at there shop they take no responsibility for it?
